It is with great excitement that the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi has opened its doors to jumpstart more world-class cultural events to the Middle East – specifically in the Emirates.
On November 11, 2017, The Louvre Abu Dhabi became the first overseas branch of the historic Paris museum. The museum is located on the Saadiyat Island Cultural District. Ten years in the planning, this art and civilization museum invites us to ‘see humanity in a new light’.
I will be visiting this museum for its architectural splendor. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, one glowing element is the dramatic dome 180 meters in diameter with a total of 7,850 aluminum stars.
There are many other engineering feats including the museum having its own marina for private yachts and a jetty to accommodate the water taxi service that will be up and running soon.
Future Openings – The Arts of Abu Dhabi
More exciting times are to come on Saadiyat Island, which is located ten minutes drive from downtown Abu Dhabi.
The Maritime Museum designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, will showcase Abu Dhabi’s seafaring traditions. The completion date is yet to be announced.

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will feature the very finest examples of global art dating from the 1960s to the present day. Designed by Frank Gehry the museum will be accompanied by a 350-seat theatre, a library, and a research centre.
Performing Arts Center – designed by Zaha Hadid Architects will include five theatres, music hall, concert hall, and opera house.
